Toshiro Mutoh

Chairman, Daiwa Institute of Research, Japan

Toshiro Mutoh is Chairman of the Daiwa Institute of Research, one of the largest economic research institutions in Japan. He spent over forty years working in the public sector, first with the Ministry of Finance and later with the Bank of Japan (BOJ). He was appointed Administrative Vice Minister of Finance in June 2000, which entailed planning and executing cabinet fiscal policy. In March 2003, Mr. Mutoh became a Deputy Governor of BOJ. He also played a major role in discontinuing the zerointerest-rate monetary policy.
