Vitor Gaspar is Finance Minister of Portugal since June 2011. He was special adviser at Banco de Portugal, before becoming Head of BEPA in January 2007. Before that, he was Director-General Research at the European Central Bank from September 1998 until December 2004. He was also Director of the Research and Statistics Department of Banco de Portugal and Director of Economic Studies at the Portuguese Ministry of Finance.
